Abortion is solely about women's right to choose.
‘All human beings are born free and equal indignity and rights.’
This is an article of the Preamble to the Universal Declaration of Human Rights. However, abortion is a controversial topic when dealing how every person have equal human rights. I both agree and disagree with the statement, ‘ Abortion is solely about the woman’s right to choose.’.
First of all, I agree that a woman should have the right to choose to have an abortion. The idea of abortion is not based on killing one’s innocent life. It is more based on protecting and understanding the woman’s life that could be affected negatively by having a birth with the sacrifice of unborn child. It can be negative to both child and a mom. It can bring out poor quality of life to a baby which leaves the baby unwanted. Also, the mom should not lose her education and career opportunities over one mistake. Some occasions such as a woman being raped and have to suffer from unexpected pregnancy, at least, she should be given an opportunity to choose whether she will have an abortion or not. Regarding the 3rd world countries with lack of welfare system, women cannot possibly handle this problem by herself and struggle from taking care of a baby. In addition, strong faith of sacred of our lives often stops some people, who has a strong faith of sacred of humans’ life, from having an abortion with an idea that humans’ life is holy from all other kinds of life. Religion brings up the idea that abortion is something that is wrong. For instance, Roman Catholic Church believes that life begins at conception so abortion is always forbidden and it destroys the right to life that every human being has. However, this could be defective, in a perspective of when considering the protection towards women’s life whilst protecting an unborn child’s life. It is a fixed idea that abortion is somethings that is fallacious. The strong faith can cause a pressure on one’s life and blocks from making one’s choice.
In another point of view, I disagree with the statement. Abortion cannot be justified because it is killing an innocent human being though the idea of protecting woman’s life. The rights of the unborn child are equal to those of her mother. This also connects to the idea that, even if it’s an unborn child, it has a right to be born to experiences its precious lifetime. Abortion could be acted out as a murder without realising it. It is basically eliminating one’s life without its permission. If you consider in a baby’s point of view, would you be happy? Possibly not. According to the united Nations Convention on the Rights of the Child, it insists that children need protection both before and after birth. This is because children are the prospects of our future and they should be treated equally as living humans. Having an abortion for the comfort of one’s life, abolishing an innocent life of unborn baby is not always a reasonable decision. It violates the moral of our lives and could have a guilty conscience afterwards. Mothers of those child should have responsibility and strong confidence of taking care of their babies as a protector of a child. In a case of unexpected pregnancy, the government should make a policy to help and support the unprotected, disadvantaged woman.
Overall, I personally think that abortion should be allowed in some occasions which it might be morally preferable. Considering that all human lives are equally treated, there shouldn’t be a priority with the importance of the life of either the pregnant women or unborn child. Meanwhile, it should also be strictly limited to prevent the floods of abortion which could bring many confusions to moral of its society. I think views towards abortion really depends on what type of society you are living in because it hugely affects to people who are living in the society as they follow the rules given by their leader. Sensible, neutral policies need to be given for the society in order to prevent to controversial issues towards abortion.

9/12, This is a good essay, well done. You have given both sides of the argument and expressed your own opinion clearly. You needed to include more from a Christian perspective- the work we did on sanctity of life applies here. You also need to link back to the wording of the question.
